Natural England have extended the closure of North Meadow until 23rd April.
Although the flood waters have receded the ground remains very soft and vulnerable to irreversible soil compaction from trampling. The paths are not yet marked risking damage to the emerging fritillaries.
Please do not visit North Meadow until it is re-opened to protect this rare and internationally important National Nature Reserve from damage.
Natural England are frequently reviewing the situation and may re-open the site before 23rd April if ground conditions allow. Please check back here for further updates.
We’re planning to travel from Frome to see the fritillaries and had thought to come in the next week but see it is closed. As the weather has been very dry and sunny we’re hoping the sight will dry out sooner. When and how can we find this out? Thankyou!
The meadow is still closed, however, we understand Natural England will be reviewing the condition of the meadow tomorrow and it is possible it will be re-openned before the 23 April. As soon as we know when the site will be re-openned we will post the details on our website.
